Philippe can almost always be found wearing dog tags. His inspiration for them traces back to the Vietnam War era — when military identification tags were standard issue for U.S. troops. At the same time- in the streets of Vietnam, local vendors also sold personalized tags, stamped with translations, bits of humor, or requests for whisky, beer, or smokes.
His pieces pay homage to that era and to those street tags. Each tag he creates preserves the tactile history of the time: the familiar military-spec dog tags with 2.4 mm ball chains — but instead of the typical military-format information, he presses each one with unique, personalized sayings — a creation that bridges wartime utility with modern sleekness and individuality.
